Volunteers’ Week returns this year for the 42nd year. From Monday 1 to Sunday 7 June 2026, Swindon Food Collective will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK.

Running every year since 1984, the week provides a crucial opportunity to thank volunteers and recognise the value of their time, passion and skills. The campaign highlights the diversity and unity of volunteer work across the UK. Many will take part in awards ceremonies, coffee mornings and days out during the week. The celebrations aim to foster connections between national organisations and grassroots groups, celebrating the spirit of volunteering that enriches communities each year.

Matt Jones, CEO said: “Volunteers’ Week is a fantastic opportunity to fully appreciate, celebrate and recognise the amazing efforts and hard work of all our 130 wonderful volunteers (and volunteer Trustees) at Swindon Food Collective. Without our volunteers and their amazing help, some of which who have volunteered with our charity for over 20 years, the local community would not have been able to benefit from free food to help the most vulnerable and those individuals and families most at risk from the worst of food poverty. We are a volunteer-led organisation, and our volunteers undertake a huge range of roles including warehouse operatives, delivery drivers, and critically, food distribution volunteers across our 12 Food Bank centres across Swindon and parts of Wiltshire”.

Swindon Food Collective are actively recruiting more volunteers for events and our most recent developments and have a range of admin, driving, and food distribution vacancies currently. Swindon Food Collective will also be celebrating Volunteers’ Week 2026 amongst many things, having a table stand at the Designer Outler in Swindon. Please get in touch via volunteering@swindonfoodcollective.org should you be able to help out in future. We are also actively recruiting new Trustees – please email: trustees@swindonfoodcollective.org

Volunteers’ Week is led by the UK Volunteering Forum, a partnership between Volunteer Scotland, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO), the Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) and Volunteer Now in Northern Ireland.

The UK Volunteering Forum said: “Volunteers bring a richness to organisations across the country. There is no better time to recognise the diversity of our volunteers and celebrate the difference that volunteering makes than during Volunteers’ Week. Without volunteers many charities just simply could not function, with so many people giving up their time and going above and beyond. The week is a chance for all of us to show just how vital they are to charities and communities everywhere.”
